Episode 1: “Pop (Warner) goes our tax dollars”
This is the first episode of my series entitled "Bad Things Happen When Hogan's Chair is Not Empty." Since Mike Hogan is a career politican, he has a long record of public votes and decisions. I’m beginning this series with this episode for two reasons: 1) Hogan clearly should have sent me for this vote 2) after not sending me he should have had the decency to procure me a tax payer funded ticket.
In 1998, Councilman Mike Hogan sponsored legislation to spend $90,000 of tax payers hard earned money to send a youth football team, the Junior Jaguars, and their cheerleaders to Russia. When opposition was raised on the City Council, Mike Hogan stated "I'm stunned, I can't believe this is even a debate (Ron Littlepage, Florida Times-Union, May 27, 1998). However, there were several on the City Council that felt saving the taxpayers $90,000 was well worth debating. City Councilman Jimmy Tullis stated "With all the needs we have in this community, I don't feel that the spending is justified." Tullis added "...it wouldn't matter if it were $5,000 (Florida Times Union, May 27, 1998)."
In the countless appearances I’ve made on behalf of Mike Hogan in forums during this campaign I’ve worked hard to brand him as a rock solid conservative, however, it is hard when you have a candidate who shows up and does things like this. I may be a piece of furniture, but dolling out tax dollars doesn't seem too conservative to me!
Here is a great example of a time when Mike Hogan for Mayor should have sent me, his empty chair!
